Evinochori Hosts “Roads of Freedom” Event on the Historic Routes of the Exodus from Messolonghi to Nafplio

The event “Roads of Freedom: The Routes of the Exodus Fighters from Messolonghi to Nafplio – Known and Unknown Paths of Doris” was held with great success in Evinochori, organized by the International Academy of Freedom and the Evinochori Cultural Association “Ancient Kalydon.”

Dedicated to the historic march of the Exodus fighters following the heroic Exodus of 1826, the event highlighted both the well-known and lesser-known routes through Doris taken on the journey toward freedom.

Key speakers included Konstantinos Karkanias, President of the International Academy of Freedom, and Konstantinos Antonopoulos, Vice President of the Union of Dorian Scientists, who presented historical evidence and emphasized the importance of collective memory.

Mr. Karkanias announced that the “Roads of Freedom” race will take place from April 23–26, 2026, marking 200 years since the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi. The commemorative route spans 444 kilometers and symbolically retraces the paths followed by the Exodus survivors toward Nafplio.

The initiative is not merely an athletic event but a multidimensional commemoration—historical, educational, environmental, and cultural—honoring those who lost everything yet carried forward the struggle for freedom.

The evening concluded with a traditional dance performance by the Evinochori dance group and live music, while attendance and public response underscored the strong resonance of the initiative.

The Roads of Freedom aim to become a landmark international event in 2026, honoring the defenders of Messolonghi and preserving their legacy for future generations.
